Third & Final Public Consultation day - Clonaslee Flood Relief Scheme

Laois County Council, in conjunction with the OPW, is developing a Flood Relief Scheme for the Community of Clonaslee.

The purpose of the Third Public Information Event is to present the preliminary scheme design, developed by RPS Consulting Engineers. This design will be brought through the Environmental Impact Assessment process, prior to submission an Bord Pleanála. This Consultation will help us to better understand the impacts on the local Community and the local environment, and will hopefully inform mitigation measures to include in the Environmental Impact Assessment Report and the eventual detailed design itself.

We invite you to review the Materials uploaded on this Consultation page and have your say by making a submission.

The Materials provided are summarised as follows:

  1. Model Predicted Flood Extents and Benefiting Areas – These maps represent the 1% Annual Exceedance Probability flood plain (this is defined as having a 1 in a 100 chance of occurring or being exceeded in any given year). The images are an output of the extensive Flood Computer Modelling exercise undertaken as part of this study. The maps also identify properties potentially at risk in a flood event of that magnitude. At this stage we are pleased to include the proposed flood defence location and the resulting benefiting area;
  2. Area 1: Brittas Wood – These maps present the flood prevention proposal in the Brittas Wood area, and considerations needed during the Construction Stage;
  3. Area 2: Chapel St – These maps present the proposal to bolster the existing wall along Chapel Street and again, key issues to overcome during the Construction Stage;
  4. Area 3: Tullamore Rd – These maps present the proposal to back-up an existing embankment just off the Tullamore Rd, and build a new wall within the ICW Wastewater Treatment facility.

An in person Public Information Day will also be held at  the  Clonaslee Heritage Centre, from 2pm – 7pm on Tuesday the 12th of December 2023, where members of the Project Team will be available to discuss the proposals.     Google Maps Link HERE
