8.5.5 NATURAL ASSETS
With respect to the paragraph in this section;
- “Increasing areas of Bord na Móna peatlands such as Abbeyleix Bog are becoming cutaway and have significant potential for development and beneficial uses including renewable energy, biodiversity, amenity uses, water storage and Green infrastructure.”
We would like it noted that Abbeyleix bog is not a cutaway site. Due to its high ecological value and as it is a restored bog it is not suited for development or for renewable energy. We would like it noted that other bogs such as Cashel, Coolnacarten, Coolnamona, Garrymore, Garryhinch and Monietta have the potential for future land use developments such as renewable energy.
With that in mind, we respectfully request that this paragraph is updated in the finalised plan and reflects the bogs which have future development and renewable energy potential.
