Notice of Intention to Acquire Derelict Site Compulsorily under the Derelict Sites Act, 1990 (as amended BY THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ACT, 2000, AS AMENDED).

Compulsory Purchase Order 1, 2026

  1. Notice is hereby given that Laois County Council (hereinafter referred to as the “Local Authority”) in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by Section 14 of the Derelict Sites Act 1990 (as amended), intend to acquire compulsorily under the said Act the derelict site described hereunder.
  2. A map of the said derelict site has been deposited at Aras an Chontae, Portlaoise, Co. Laois and may be inspected there during office hours.  
  3. Any owner, lessee or occupier (except a tenant for a month or a period less than a month) may, on or before 18th day of February 2026 submit to the Local Authority an objection to the proposed compulsory acquisition of the derelict site. Any such objection must be in writing stating the grounds of the objection and addressed to Joanne Dunne, Staff Officer, Laois County Council, Aras an Chontae, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.
  4. The Derelict Sites Act 1990 (as amended) provides that if an objection is made to the proposed compulsory acquisition of a derelict site and the objection is not withdrawn, the derelict site shall not be acquired compulsorily by the local authority without the consent of An Coimisiún Pleanála.

Description of the Derelict Site proposed to be acquired

A derelict site comprising two-storey commercial units and surrounding land situate at 88 Main Street, Lyster Lane/Pepper’s Lane, Portlaoise containing 0.0938 hectares or thereabouts. The said property and surrounding land is in a state of dereliction. The said derelict site is more particularly shown outlined in red on map, bearing reference CPO No. 1 of 2026 and DS20/03 and DS22/34 in the Derelict Site Register established and maintained by Laois County Council under Section 8 of the Derelict Site Act 1990 (as amended) being all the property comprised in an unregistered Folio and Folio LS9226F of the Register of Freeholders Co. Laois.
