Public Consultation - Timahoe Cemetery Works (Part 8)

NOTICE OF PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT BY LAOIS COUNTY COUNCIL

In accordance with Part XI, Section 179 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and Part VIII, Article 80 & 81 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) Laois County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following development:

Details of development:
The proposed development will involve the acquisition of land situated to the north of the existing
cemetery. This acquisition is for the purpose of establishing a new, non-public entrance onto the
R426, which will afford access to the rear of the cemetery for approved contractors and Laois
County Council personnel.
The scope of works also includes the replacement of the current boundary wall, railings, and
entrance, in addition to necessary drainage and all associated site development works. An Appropriate Assessment Screening Report for the proposed development has been completed and is available for inspection.
In accordance with Article 81A(5) of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) Laois County
Council, as the competent authority, has carried out Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Screening and has
determined that there is no likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development and that an EIA is not required in respect of the proposed development.
In accordance with Article 81A(6) of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) Laois County
Council, as the competent authority, has carried out Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening in respect of the proposed development to assess, in view of best scientific knowledge, if the development, individually or in combination with other plans or projects, would be likely to have a significant effect on a European site in view of its conservation objectives. Accordingly, Laois County Council has determined that the proposed development would not be likely to have a significant effect on a European site and that a Stage 2 Appropriate Assessment is not required in respect of the proposed development.
Any person may, from 6th May 2026 to 3rd June 2026 inclusive, apply to An Coimisiún Pleanála for a screening
determination as to whether the development would be likely to have significant effects on the environment.
Plans and particulars of the above proposed development are available for viewing on our online consultation portal at https://consult.laois.ie from 6th May 2026 to 3rd June 2026 inclusive. Plans and particulars are also available for inspection at the offices of Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, JFL Avenue, Portlaoise from 6th May 2026 to 3rd June 2026 inclusive.
Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and the
sustainable development of the area in which the development would be situated, may be made online at
https://consult.laois.ie before 5.00 p.m. on 19th June 2026.

Note: Only submissions made in the above manner will be considered as valid submissions for the purposes of the Chief
Executive’s Report that will be presented to Council.
