CALL FOR SITES ON LAND SUITABLE FOR ZONING FOR EMPLOYMENT USES ONLY.  THIS IS TO BE USED AS PART OF THE EVIDENCE BASE FOR A COUNTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN VARIATION ON EMPLOYMENT LANDS IN 2026 / 2027

Laois County Council is seeking submissions from landowners, developers and agents in respect of lands that may be suitable for the following employment land use zonings:

Proposed lands should meet the following criteria:

• Contribute to the achievement of compact growth and sequential patterns of development.
• Be serviced, or capable of being serviced and delivered, within the next five years for a forthcoming variation to the LCDP on employment land;
• Be located in areas with good public transport services or is capable of delivering it with a proposed development.
• Not be subject to significant constraints or impediments to development, for example legal, environmental, topographical or servicing constraints.

How to Make a Submission

Submissions may be made during the following period:

• Opening date: 9am, 6^th August 2026
• Closing date:  5pm, 8^th October 2026

Late  submissions cannot be accepted and will be considered as invalid.

Submissions can be submitted by one of the following mediums to avoid the duplication of submission reference numbers and will streamline the process.:

1. In writing marked “Call for sites: on land suitable for employment zoning” addressed to: Senior Planner, Planning Section, Laois County Council, Aras an Chontae, JFL Avenue, Portlaoise, Co.Laois.

All submissions should be clearly marked “Call for sites on lands suitable for employment zoning” 

Please download and complete the call for sites on lands suitable for employment zoning form which is available at https://consult.laois.ie

All submissions must include the following information:

• Completed call for sites on land suitable for zoning form
• A map clearly identifying the lands concerned which should be outlined in red.
• Any supporting documentation demonstrating compliance with the criteria set out above.  This could include indicative layouts, masterplans if land is large scale and longer term development proposals.
• Details of how the proposal aligns with relevant Government policy.

There is no guarantee that any lands identified in submissions made in response to this consultation will be zoned. No lands will be zoned solely on foot of this consultation. Lands may only be zoned through the formal process of making or varying a development plan. Only lands considered suitable, and which satisfy the criteria set out above following analysis and assessment by Laois County Council, may be considered as part of a County Development Plan variation on employment lands.

Submissions received by the Planning Authority will be published on Laois County Council website at www.laois.ie/planning within 10 working days of receipt, along with your name in accordance with the Planning & Development (Amendment) Act 2018, however your contact details will not be published. Please do not include personal, confidential or other sensitive information in submissions.

The Council is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. If you consider that any of the information supplied by you is either commercially sensitive or confidential in nature, this should be highlighted and the reasons for its sensitivity specified. In such cases, the relevant material will, in response to FOI requests, be examined in light of exemptions provided for in the FOI Act.
