Laois County Council is seeking the views of the public on a number of important corporate documents which will help set the framework for action over the next 5 years.
The input of the public is requested for:
Laois County Council Corporate Plan 2024-2029
Laois County Council Public Sector Duty (under Section 42 of Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014)
Laois County Council’s Corporate Plan 2024 – 2029 will outline our vision for County Laois and describe the main priorities for the Council, and the benefits we will deliver for our communities. This plan will set out our strategic framework for the next five years and what we will do as a Council in partnership with our communities and partners to deliver that vision. We will also outline in the plan the core values that will inform our work, how we deliver services and engage with our customers and stakeholders.
Our aim in the preparation of the Corporate Plan is to ensure that an inclusive approach is adopted through consultation with both internal and external stakeholders. The goal is to give stakeholders input into the plan-making process thereby ensuring its relevance to the community we serve.
For the purposes of the consultation, we have included two main questions for consideration when making your submission:
What additional issues should be included in the Laois County Council Corporate Plan 2024-2029?
What elements of the Laois County Council Corporate Plan 2019-2024 should be omitted from the 2024-2029 plan?
The Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty (the Duty) is contained in Section 42 of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014. The Duty places a legal obligation on public bodies to have regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, promote equality of opportunity and protect the human rights of all public sector staff and service users. Local authorities are at the front line of public service delivery and play a key role towards realisation of a fair and inclusive society.
For the purposes of the consultation, we have included three further questions for consideration when making your submission:
What are the human rights and equality issues that are relevant to the functions of Laois County Council?
How could we practically improve on performance in relation to human rights and equality issues that are relevant to the functions of Laois County Council?
How can Laois County Council usefully act to eliminate adverse discrimination?
Your submission will assist us in developing an ambitious plan for the county which will have the flexibility and resilience to adapt to the demands of a changing environment. It will allow for changing priorities and, when necessary, reallocation of resources.
The closing date for receipt of submissions is Wednesday 6th November, 2024 at 4.00pm.
